Having a well thought out classroom management plan is crucial for student success. My classroom management plan is based on the five step Self - Discipline Pyramid described in Villa, Thousand, and Nevin's (2010) Collaborating with Students in Instruction and Decision Making (p. 171 - 188).
In the following sections above entitled, "Caring Community, Recovery Methods, Long-Term Supports, Somewhere Else Plan, and Wraparound Support," Students and parents will be able to see various techniques and strategies that will be employed throughout the school year to further our school environment. I view my students as a team as well as a family. Thus I want to give every student as much support as I can to help them succeed in our classroom as well as in life.
Teaching Philosophy
My educational philosophy is centered on the ideas of social reconstructionism as well as experimentalism. From a reconstructionists standpoint, I believe that students should be educated in order to positively impact and change society. They should be taught to build a higher level of social order and success. Students need to be taught how to unite and create a stronger and more effective democratic society. And Curriculum should include an exploration of economic, political, and social issues.
Teaching at an experimentalist level is very progressive for both students and society. From this standpoint, the primary purpose of education and schooling is to push students to think more efficiently. Experimentalism encourages individuals to think analytically while fostering the ability to think freely and to criticize. This discipline allows students to learn through experience. This allows students to learn about management and discipline. Furthermore, experimentalism often incorporates a great deal of individual and group projects intertwined with class discussions allowing for a very progressive learning experience.
